I now present to you the first official trailer for Zach Snyder’s Watchmen, courtesy of Yahoo Movies! What do you think?

According to a Hollywood Reporter article published earlier today, Marvel Studios has officially signed director Joe Johnston to helm its 2010 release, The First Avenger: Captain America.

“This is a guy who designed the vehicles for Star Wars, who storyboarded the convoy action sequence for Raiders of the Lost Ark, ” said Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige. “From Rocketeer to October Sky to The Wolfman, you can look at pieces of his movies and see how they lead to this one.”

Amongst his many other credits, Johnston has also directed Hidalgo, Jumanji and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

The First Avenger: Captain America will be a period piece set in the WWII era. However, the Avengers feature, scheduled for a 2011 release, will take place in modern times.

Those rascals over at Joblo have posted the latest Watchmen video journal, this one focusing on the character of Silk Spectre II (played by the uber-sexy Malin Akerman) and her relationship with her mother, the Golden Age Silk Spectre (portrayed by the equally sexy Carla Gugino, who is, in reality, only seven years older than Akerman).

I don’t know about you, but I think Akerman is just as hot — if not hotter — as a brunette than she is as a blonde. But I’ll leave that up for you to decide as you watch her kick prisoner butt in style.

Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for shots of the Minutemen, Ozymandias in full regalia, and a few other neat surprises!
